Category Management
Category management requires the correct permission, such as Project Manager, Create Plan/TC … . For more information, please refer to the Global Permissions guide.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to manage the categories available to the different test cases in a project. The category management can be accessed by selecting the desired project, clicking the ‘Project Settings’ option from the left-hand navigation menu & clicking on the ‘Category’ option. This will redirect you to the management page for the project categories.
If the project is newly created, you will be able to see the ‘Home’ category, this is a default category included with all newly created projects, you can rename this category as you will.
Note that TESTaide requires at least ONE category at all times. As such, you are not allowed to remove any category, including the default ‘Home’ category, if it is the last remaining category.
Adding categories
TESTaide allows for up to 10 sub-levels of a category. Notice that when you move a parent category, all of the child categories are also moved.
Adding a new category
To add a new main categories to a project, follow these steps:
Click on the ‘Create Category’ button on the top-right of the page.
On the ‘Create Category’ pop-up window, enter the name of the category and click the ‘Save’ button at the bottom to complete adding the new category.
Adding a sub-category
To add a sub-category to a parent category in a project:
Click '+' icon on the right-hand side of the desired parent category.
On the ‘Create Category’ pop-up window, enter the name of the category and click the ‘Save’ button at the bottom to complete adding the sub-category.
Moving categories
You are able to move a category to become its own category or a sub-category by clicking and holding the category (☰) and moving the category to its desired position.
When moving the category, hover the clicked category over/just under the desired parent category and move the mouse to the right until you see a dash (-) appear on the parent category to make it the sub-category.
Copying categories
On the category management page, click the ‘More’ button to open a drop-down menu. From the drop-down menu, click the ‘Copy Category’ option.
In the ‘Copy Category’ pop-up window, select the project you wish to copy the current categories to and click the ‘Copy Category’ button at the bottom.
When the copy confirmation pop-up window appears, click the 'OK' button to complete the copy.
Deleting a category from a project
To delete categories from a project, follow these steps:
On the category management page, from the list of categories, click the ‘Remove’ (🗑) icon besides the category you want to delete.
When the confirmation pop-up window appears, click the 'OK' button to complete the deletion.
